AppFest 2016

The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) is a co-sponsor of the upcoming 2016 AppFest being held in Seattle, Washington, on Tuesday, December 13, 2016. According to FirstNet’s Facebook page, the event will highlight data-rich apps tailored to the specific needs of first responders.   AppFest is designed to help first responder mobile app users, emergency management personnel, software developers, and others learn more about public safety mobile applications. FirstNet Delays Award Announcement

FirstNet CEO Mike Poth announced the organization would not be naming the contract awardee for the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network by the original targeted date of November 1, 2016. In a blog post, Poth explained FirstNet has made significant progress in the process to deploy a nationwide LTE network dedicated to first responders, but will “continue to execute the acquisition process outlined in the RFP beyond the November 1 target date for the award.” The RFP was released in January, and for the past few months FirstNet has been evaluating these proposals from companies endeavoring to be the selected partner to deploy the...

FirstNet’s Plan to Maximize Value for Public Safety

FirstNet is moving closer to deploying a dedicated, nationwide LTE radio communications network for public safety. This modern, interoperable structure will allow agencies across the U.S. to use new technologies with increased capacity on a single network. According to FirstNet, there are currently more than 10,000 separate, incompatible radio networks in use by public safety personnel across the country.
