FirstNet Delays Award Announcement

By Amanda Murphy

FirstNet CEO Mike Poth announced the organization would not be naming the contract awardee for the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network by the original targeted date of November 1, 2016. In a blog post, Poth explained FirstNet has made significant progress in the process to deploy a nationwide LTE network dedicated to first responders, but will “continue to execute the acquisition process outlined in the RFP beyond the November 1 target date for the award.” The RFP was released in January, and for the past few months FirstNet has been evaluating these proposals from companies endeavoring to be the selected partner to deploy the infrastructure for the nationwide network.
